MELAKA: A 17-year-old teenager faces two counts of murder and a charge of injuring his younger brother with a folding knife in a magistrate’s court today.

The form five student was brought to the court to face three charges – two charges of murdering his 51-year-old mother, a school teacher and the eldest brother while the third charge is injuring his 13-year-old brother with a folding knife.

The offences were alleged to commit at their home located at Jalan RM3, Taman Rambai Mutiara, in the Melaka Tengah district between 5 and 5.30am on June 12.

No plea was recorded for the two murder charges and the teenager claimed trial to the charge of injuring his brother under section 326 of the Penal Code.

Neither family members nor relatives were present in court when the charges were read to him in Mandarin.

The magistrate’s court fixed mention on July 24.

The young accused remains in detention without bail.

The teenager allegedly stabbed the mother while she was asleep and the eldest brother, 21, tried to stop him.

Both were found dead with multiple stab wounds while the youngest brother was injured at their home here on June 12.

The youngest boy, who refused to leave home as instructed by the teenager, was also stabbed.

He was rushed to the hospital by an ambulance after the incident.

Initial investigation by the police indicated that resentment was the motive as the teenager, the second son, was often pressured by the mother to revise his study for SPM examination.

The teenager had bought the 20cm folding knife earlier.

He told the police it was a robbery but the CCTV footage showed otherwise.

The police also discovered the knife in his school bag.

The father passed away in January this year.
