
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian rapper Namewee has been detained by the police after turning himself in at the Dang Wangi police station at 1am on Wednesday.
Dang Wangi Police Chief ACP Suzali Adam confirmed that Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee would be remanded for six days to assist into the investigation of female Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh’s murder.
Wee’s lawyer Joshua Tay, who accompanied Wee to the police station at 1 am on Wednesday, was seen returning to the police station during the day.

The sudden death of Hsieh, also known as “Nurse Goddess,” has been reclassified as murder.
Hsieh, 31, was found dead in a bathtub inside the hotel room on Oct 22.
Wee, 42, was the last person with Hsieh and police believed he had connection with the case.
Wee claimed that Hsieh and him were working together on a video project and had discussions in the hotel room throughout the night.
Wee, accompanied by several friends and Tay, showed up at the Dang Wangi police station at 1am on Wednesday.
Before turning himself in, Wee posted on social media that he arrived Kuala Lumpur from Johor Bahru and said he would be giving the police full cooperation in the investigation of Hsieh’s murder.
