Organized by the deputy president of Federation of Lim Malaysia Association Tan Sri Lim Hock San, Kit Siang, who has been named the association’s honorary life president, cut the birthday cake with Anwar in advance before February 20.

This is Kit Siang’s first birthday celebration after he was conferred Tan Sri last year.

Many DAP leaders and ministers were present to join the party.

Anwar said his family was grateful to Kit Siang, who has been fighting the battle with him all the time.

“If you ask me what I have learned from you after dealing with you all these years, that will be your firm stand in anti-corruption and your persistence in good governance, as well as the focus on developing the economy,” said Anwar.

He also said the iron-willed Kit Siang has become a powerful force in the political field.

“You challenge the norm, such as leaders are always right. You have also uncovered series of scandals,” Anwar added.

These controversies have made some people, especially the Malays, anxious.

“These issues are creating a huge impact on the way we think about governance.

“Your books, campaigns and talks are influencing us on how to manage the country and its resources to ensure that the leaders are accountable,” said Anwar.

Kit Siang, who has retired from active politics, said this does not mean he no longer cares about politics.

“I don’t agree with senior citizens who are 70s, 80s and 90s not talking about politics. Politics affects our lives in many ways,” he said.

Kit Siang cares about his Malaysia can be a model for the world after 50 years of decline.

“All of us should care for this country regardless of our age and ethnicity,” he said.

“We can show the world how Malaysia can be better than any country in the world. Whether we are successful, the next three to four years will be critical,” he said.
