SEREMBAN: A total of 3,314 prisoners in Negeri Sembilan have been offered jobs by 19 companies through programs such as parole, Licensed Prisoner Release (PBSL) and Compulsory Attendance Order (PKW) initiated by Prisons Department.
Speaking at the launch of MyPride Fair organized by Prisons Department at NSK Trade City Seremban 2, Deputy Commissioner-General of Prisons Department Datuk Abdul Aziz Abdul Razak said the inmates not only secured their jobs but their salaries were also good.
Running from now until this Saturday, MyPride Fair showcases a wide range of products produced by inmates, including rattan products, baskets, garden tables and chairs, iron racks, barbecue sets, batik, etc.
“The products are made by inmates under rehabilitation program (phase III) of Negeri Sembilan and Selangor prisons.
“Proceeds from the sale will be channeled to the inmates who produce the products,” he said.
Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, who launched the fair, said the state is currently implementing Jom Hijrah, a plan to initiate restorative justice in support of inmates.
He also urged government-linked agencies, private companies and non-governmental organizations to assist the inmates in rehabilitation programs.
