BAHAU: The price of new durian variant Chu Liuxiang is close to that of Musang King!
A 32-year-old durian seller of Chu Liuxiang said the new variant originating in Sagil, Johor, has a unique taste and is popular among durian lovers.
As the new variant is without a name, the durian grower named it after the protagonist of Chinese martial art novel Chu Liuxiang written by Taiwanese writer Gu Long.
Liuxiang literally means “lingering fragrance”.
Chu Liuxiang looks just like any normal durian, but is different in taste, according to the seller, who bought some from durian wholesalers to sell in Bahau.
The new variant is priced between RM25 to RM55 per kilogramme, higher than D24, 101, 88 and others.
Chu Liuxiang was sold out in just three hours in one afternoon, as Malaysians of three major ethnic groups bought the new variant.
