SEREMBAN: A coffeeshop association has compiled a list of 12 types of local cuisines in the state in a bid to promote tourism for Negeri Sembilan.
Lau Yong King, chairman of the association registered as Persatuan Saudagar Kopi Arak Restoran dan Hotel Negeri Sembilan, believes that the pamphlet will attract local and foreign tourists to visit the state to savour different types of tasty food and contribute to local tourism boost.
The 12 types of food are: Yee sang, fish head beehoon, grilled crab, squid beehoon, Hakka noodles, pork noodles, minced meat noodles, beef noodles, siew pao, laksa, roast pork and Hainanese satay.
This is the second guide to be published by the association, taking cue from its first publication of traditional coffee shops in Negeri Sembilan and a list of places to visit in the state, Lau said.
Lau mooted the idea of compiling a list of delicious food in the state after he saw visitors use the first guide to plan their coffee shop stops in the state.
“A convoy of motorbikes was in my coffee shop discussing their next food stop based on the guide.
“I was inspired to continue printing the second guide,” said Lau.
The first guide introduced the Hainanese coffee shops which are more than 60 years old.
“Each state has its unique food. The squid beehoon of Negeri Sembilan is one good example. The colourful yee sang is another which is now common throughout the country.
“I hope more people will learn about the delicious food available in Negeri Sembilan,” said Lau.
Even the younger generation who prefer chain restaurants over traditional coffee shops are not aware of the hidden gems, he lamented.
The second guide will be made available at coffee shops which are members of the association, he said.
Lau plans to source for funds to print more and send the guide to coffee shops in other states.
