SIMPANG PERTANG: Although there are only four or five Indian pupils studying at SJK(C) Simpang Pertang, Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan, the entire school celebrates Deepavali with them.
This is the second year the school is celebrating Deepavali, with teachers and pupils coming to school in traditional Indian costumes.
Headmistress Li Ming Zhu said the teachers and pupils learned more about the Indian culture after organizing the celebration for the first time last year.
This year, the vice chairman of the school’s parent-teacher association Datuk Gobinathan and wife helped the school with a colorful kolam and guided pupils and teachers in Deepavali decorations.
“Teachers and pupils learn while taking part in the process of decorating the school for Deepavali,” she said.
An Indian costume competition was held on the day, with Indian songs and music played to add to the festive cheer.
The students also performed Indian dances on the stage.
