KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian rapper Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, has been implicated in the death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh, known as “Nurse Goddess.”
Dang Wangi Police Chief ACP Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman confirmed with Sin Chew Daily that Wee was involved in the case of Hsieh, 31, found dead in a bathtub in a hotel room.
However, the cause of her death remains unclear, pending further analysis by the forensic department.
As for Wee, ACP Shazali said preliminary urine test results showed positive reactions for four types of drugs—amphetamine, methamphetamine, ketamine and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
He added that Wee was charged with drug use and drug possession under Dangerous Drugs Act in a magistrate’s court on October 24.
Wee claimed trial and the magistrate’s court had fixed December 18 for mention.
Sources revealed that Wee called MERS 999 emergency hotline at 12.30 pm on October 22, after Hsieh was found unconscious.
He did not explain clearly what had happened when paramedics arrived, but headed to hotel elevator to leave when police officers—who happened to be stationed on that floor for ASEAN Summit security duties—stopped him.
The police officers then escorted him back to Hsieh’s hotel room, where the death was uncovered.
Sources revealed that Hsieh was found naked, face up, in the hotel room bathtub. However, the bathtub and floor were both dry.
According to Wee’s statement, Hsieh and Wee had been working together on a video project and had discussions inside the hotel room throughout the night.
Hsieh later went into the bathroom to shower but failed to come out after half an hour.
Feeling uneasy, Wee entered the bathroom and discovered her lifeless body in the tub.
He attempted CPR on the spot but was unable to resuscitate her.
Police searching the scene reportedly found drugs and sexual enhancement pills. Wee was taken to police station for urine testing.
