MELAKA: A giant mural of Chinese actress Fan Bingbing will be ready to greet the star when she is appointed as the tourism ambassador for Visit Melaka 2024 on 15 June.

The portrait of Fan in Empress of China, a TV series where Fan acted as the first female emperor of China, is used as reference to paint the mural, three metre in height at Lorong Hang Jebat in Jonker Walk area.

Fan, 42, will launch the mural when she is officially appointed as the ambassador for Visit Melaka 2024.

The Melaka Historic City Council workers are racing against time to paint the mural by the end of this week after securing the consent of the building owner to paint the mural.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh shared the news of the appointment of Fan’s appointment on social media.

 Fan Bingbing rose to fame in the late 90s through her role in the drama series My Fair Princess.

From 2013 to 2017, she was named the highest paid celebrity in the Forbes China Celebrity 100 list.

In 2014, she became China’s First Barbie Doll. She also appeared on Vanity Fair’s ‘Best Dressed’ list in 2015 and 2016.

In 2017, she appeared on Time magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people. In 2019, Fan launched her own beauty brand Fan Beauty.
