SEREMBAN: Nicole Tan Lee Koon is the only woman candidate fielded by DAP in the Negeri Sembilan state election. But she is not lonely.
She is the only woman among the 11 candidates shortlisted by DAP to contest in Negeri Sembilan.
An incumbent for Bukit Kepayang, Tan is one of the five women candidates under the Pakatan Harapan – Barisan Nasional pact.
As a Negeri Sembilan executive councilor in charge of women, family and welfare, Tan has organized many women empowerment events to encourage more women to join politics.
She is proud that Pakatan Harapan’s two other women candidates — Noorzunita Begum Mohd Ibrahim (PKR) for Pilah and Norwani Ahmat (Amanah) for Paroi — were both participants at the all-women mock assembly organized by Power House Wanita Gemilang initiated by her in 2018.
Tan encouraged women to become decision makers and contribute in nation-building.
Two other women candidates under the PH-BN pact contesting in Negeri Sembilan are Puan Sri Bibi Sharliza Mohd Khalid (Juasseh) and Tengku Zamrah Tengku Sulaiman (Ampangan).
It is reported that a total of 71 women candidates will be contesting 245 seats in this weekend’s six state elections.
Pakatan Harapan has the most female candidates, with 26 out of a total of 137 candidates, while MUDA has the largest percentage, with 10 women out of 19 candidates.
Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah will be holding their state elections simultaneously on August 12.
