MUAR: Three male students of Muar Chung Hwa High School are expelled from the school for using artificial intelligence to create inappropriate images of female classmates which went viral online.

Investigations conducted by the school showed that the three students in form two, form three and lower six used AI software to superimpose faces of several female students onto explicit images and now the images are circulated online.

At least two female students had filed police reports and the male students were summoned by the police for questioning.

School principal Chionh Cheong Kang confirmed the incident with Sin Chew Daily and said the expulsion reflected the stand of the school – zero-tolerance stance toward such misconduct.

The school contacted parents of the male and female students after identifying them in the investigations.

“We informed the parents that the matter would be handled strictly in accordance with school regulations and encouraged the victims to lodge police reports.

“The parents of the male students accepted the school’s decision to expel their children,” he said.

Chionh said the school took a disciplinary action as a strong warning that the school would not tolerate such behavior and to safeguard the reputation of the school as well.  

The school had also conducted educational briefings to inform students legal responsibilities, ethical boundaries and the importance of respecting others when using the internet, he said.

In a letter sent to parents, the school urged them to work closely with the school and monitor their children’s online activities.

Parents were advised that if their children had received AI-generated explicit images, they should immediately delete the images and instruct their children not to forward or share such material, so as to avoid causing further harm to the victims.

Muar District police chief ACP Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz confirmed the police reports lodged by female students and police already summoned the male students for investigations.
