Please return handphone with precious photos, appeals landslide victim’s husband

PETALING JAYA: The husband of a landslide victim is appealing for the return of his late wife’s handphone and belongings inside her vehicle.

David Ling Mun Siong, who has since lodged a police report, said the Touch ‘n Go card of his late wife Liu Pei Si, which is linked to his e-wallet, was used by unauthorized people from December 22 to 31 after her tragic death in the December 16 Batang Kali landslide.

Her handphone and wallet kept inside the car were missing when Ling searched for the car towed to the police station from the landslide site.

“My son is hoping to find my wife’s handphone in the car which has lots of precious photos,” wrote Ling on his Facebook.

Ling appeals for the wife’s handphone and belongings to be returned to him.

The car driven by Ling’s wife was badly damaged in the landslide.

Ling’s son Zixuan, who was rescued at the landslide site, recalled the damage of his late mother’s car at the landslide site which was featured in local newspaper reports, and the car kept at the police station was in a much worse condition.

Car battery, audio system and other parts which could be removed were missing from Liu’s car.

Ling said Zixuan knew her mother and another teacher left their handphones and wallets inside the car boot.

“These items are missing from the car,” Ling said.

Liu and her teenage son were among those spending their night at the camp site of an organic farm buried by a landslide on December 16.

A total of 31 people perished in the incident while 61 were rescued.

When Ling checked with the police, the investigating officer told him the police did not offer car towing service and suggested that he approach insurance company instead.

Ling said he had since terminated his wife’s credit and debit cards.

Hulu Selangor police chief Supt Suffian Abdullah issued a statement that the police had received two reports on theft involving items owned by landslide victims in Batang Kali.

He said the police would be investigating the reports.

Suffian urged members of the public to contact the police at 03-6064-1223 for possible leads.

Liu’s wallet and handphone kept inside the boot were missing.
