Philippine missionary schools looking for Chinese language teachers from Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Missionary schools in Manila and Palawan are inviting Chinese language teachers from Sabah to teach the language at primary and secondary schools there.

Church-affiliated primary and secondary schools in the Philippines are promoting the Chinese language, and they plan to recruit Chinese language teachers from Sabah.

Representatives from missionary schools in Manila visited Pei Tsin High School in Kudat, Sabah, earlier to know more about the Chinese schools.

The missionary schools in Manila and Palawan are using local dialects and English as medium of instruction.

Datuk James Lim, advisor to the ASEAN-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry, called on interested Chinese language teachers to contact him as soon as possible to arrange for interviews, discuss salary packages, and review other requirements.

Those interested can visit Manila or Palawan from 19 to 24 March to have face-to-face discussions with the missionary schools, said Lim.

Applicants must be able to communicate in English in order to teach the local students, he said, adding that the offer opens the door for Chinese language teachers in Sabah to teach abroad and promote Chinese education overseas.
