Bandar Hilir market to be transformed into a women’s market

MELAKA: The Bandar Hilir market will be transformed into a women’s market, says Bandar Hilir state assemblyman Leng Chau Yen.

Managed by Bandar Hilir Japerun (state legislative assembly development and coordination committee), the over 20-year-old market will take the lead to be a role model, said Leng.

“We want to turn it into a women’s market for women to be on their own financially, apart from receiving monthly welfare aid.

“Single mothers and disabled women are given the priority to apply for a stall here at a monthly rent of RM250.

“They can sell food, clothes, accessories or pre-loved items,” said Leng after visiting the market Sunday.

Bandar Hilir Japerun has applied for RM30,000 allocations from the land office to upgrade the dilapidated market.

The market, with about 20 stalls, is scheduled to reopen later this year, and will operate from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
