PENANG: Former Category III actress Amy Yip from Hong Kong is aware that a bun is named after her in Malaysia.

Yip, a former sex symbol in the 1980s and 1990s, said she had seen pictures of the huge bun sold in Malaysia.

“Friends asked me why I do not take legal action for infringement of rights. But, one word of the bun is slightly different from my name despite the same pronunciation.

“So I have no grounds to sue,” said Yip.

The 58-year-old actress, who retired from acting in 1997, is in Penang for the launch of The Leith Hotel jointly invested by her and a Malaysian partner.

Yip plans to invest in more hotels over the next three years in Penang.

She was friendly and patient as she took photographs with fans turning up at the hotel, for close to an hour without turning them away.

Yip is best known for her lead roles in Erotic Ghost Story (1990), Sex and Zen (1991) and Robotrix (1991).
