KUALA LUMPUR: Chinese entrepreneurs throughout the world should diversify in collaboration to avoid political risks, says Jonathan Choi, president of The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong.

“We talk about economy and not politics,” he said.

Economic collaborations among Chinese entrepreneurs worldwide should not be confined to bilateral partnerships, but more diversified ventures.

“For instance, Malaysia can collaborate with the United Kingdom and the Middle East; and Middle East can collaborate with countries like China, Malaysia and Singapore, too.

“Such diversified collaboration mode will help avert political elements and is more practical in promoting economic collaborations among Chinese entrepreneurs throughout the world,” he said.

Choi, in an online interview with Sin Chew Daily, is looking forward to gather strength among Chinese entrepreneurs in various parts of the world through the World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention (WCEC) to drive the development of global economy by facing the current challenges together.

“Since the inception of WCEC in Singapore in 1991, it has progressed to become a global platform for Chinese entrepreneurs throughout the world.

“WCEC has not only achieved outstanding success in connecting Chinese entrepreneurs worldwide but also groomed the next generation of Chinese leaders to continue with the spirit of Chinese entrepreneurs.

“The objective of WCEC is to unite Chinese entrepreneurs, drive them to move forward in the new era and chart a promising future by connecting with entrepreneurs in all parts of the world.

“Business enterprises should not be only going after profits but merging the economy and technology in order to mobilise green economy and recycling businesses,” added Choi.

Held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 9 to 11 September, WCEC has attracted the participation of more than 4,000 Chinese entrepreneurs.

These entrepreneurs do not only hope to connect with others but also discover investment potentials in Malaysia and explore possibilities of diversified collaborations, said Choi.

WCEC offers non-political collaboration in economy and a platform for cultural interaction.

Prior to this, WCEC had been held in Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Canada, Australia, Nanjing (China), Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Chengdu (China), Indonesia, Myanmar and the United Kingdom.
