MELAKA: MCA hopes to recruit 1,000 young people below the age of 40 in Melaka, says its president Datuk Seri Dr. Wee Ka Siong.
This is the target he set for Melaka MCA at its annual general meeting on Sunday.
Dr. Wee also reminded party members to provide opportunities for young people as they are the future leaders.
“The future of MCA lies with these young people,” he said, adding that he was glad to see so many young faces at the annual general meeting.
He wanted to see more young people joining MCA.
Wee also said the goal of 1,000 young people joining MCA is not difficult to achieve, as there are six MCA divisions in Melaka, and each division only needs to recruit 200 new members to meet this target.
Currently, there are about 70,000 MCA members below the age of 40 nationwide. The number has been decreasing steadily over the years.
As young people above 18 are now eligible to vote, Wee encouraged party members to engage with university graduates and university students.
