BUTTERWORTH: Penang caretaker chief minister Chow Kon Yeow said former state DAP deputy chairman P. Ramasamy left the party because he was unhappy with the five-man selection committee not appropriately conveying their decision to affected leaders and party members.
Chow said Ramasamy had on several occasions told him he did not insist to run in the election, but if the selection committee decided not to field him, they should have conveyed their decision in a better way.
“Not only this time, but in past elections, affected leaders and party members were only informed in the last minute.”
Chow insisted that he had advised Ramasamy not to resign but to no avail.
When asked whether Ramasamy’s resignation would impact the winning chances of Pakatan Harapan in Perai, Chow said Ramasamy was three-term assemblyman for the constituency and had many supporters and relations there, adding that there might be people who would sympathize with him.
“But I must repeat here that every vote is very important to the Unity Government.
“Even if you are not happy, you still have to fulfill your citizen’s responsibility to vote.”
