PETALING JAYA: DAP vice president Nga Kor Ming said the party is not anyone’s family business, as alleged by former Penang deputy chief minister II P. Ramasamy who announced his resignation from the party this morning.

“DAP does not belong to any family but all Malaysians.

“We welcome anyone with talent and wisdom to join us in pursuing freedom and equality for all, which is our core value.”

Nga told Sin Chew Daily it was untrue that Ramasamy was dropped from the Penang state election line-up because he supported the incumbent chief minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Ramasamy earlier alleged that someone wanted to establish his own dynasty in DAP.

Nga said Ramasamy should not have misguided the public at this critical moment, clarifying that the decision not to field Ramasamy in the state election was made by a five-man committee which included himself.

“The committee decided not to field him because he is already 74, and we felt he should give way to younger people.”

Nga also refuted Ramasamy’s accusation that secretary-general Anthony Loke did not respect him for not informing him beforehand the party’s decision not to field him in the state election.

He said Loke had informed Ramasamy of the decision at noon on the day the election line-up was announced.

“After the party decided not to field Ramasamy, Loke and I visited him and informed him our decision. Chow Kon Yeow was also there to witness!

“Back then he said he agreed with the party’s decision.”
