PETALING JAYA: Is Damansara member of parliament Gobind Singh Deo the next chief minister of Penang?
Gerakan deputy president Oh Tong Keong has claimed that he received the latest tip-off that Gobind Singh Deo will be contesting in the Penang state election and will likely be the next Penang chief minister if he wins in the election.
Former chief minister Lim Guan Eng will be the deputy chief minister to assist Gobind.
However, a source told Sin Chew Daily that the speculation came from Perikatan Nasional with the intention of creating chaos for Pakatan Harapan and DAP.
Chow Kon Yeow will remain the next Penang chief minister, the source said.
Although Gobind, the Selangor DAP chairman, has been a member of parliament for 15 years since 2008, he is a registered voter in Penang.
Gobind was the member of parliament for Puchong from 2008 to 2022. He won the Damansara parliamentary seat in the last general election.
Both Gobind and his younger brother Ramkarpal Singh cast their votes at St. Xavier’s Institution in Penang last November.
His elder brother Jagdeep Singh Deo confirmed that Gobind is a registered voter in Pulau Tikus state seat.
On the speculation Gobind is candidate for the next Penang chief minister, Jagdeep told the media to check with party leaders.
