Flood situation worsens in Johor, 5,878 people displaced

BATU PAHAT: The flood situation in Johor has worsened with the number of people displaced rising to 5,878 as of noon today compared to 1,591 evacuees recorded this morning.

The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) in a statement said a total of 1,575 families have been placed in 54 temporary evacuation centers (PPS).

“Kluang is the worst affected district with 1,952 people placed in 10 PPS, followed by Segamat with 1,431 people moved to 16 PPS.

“Also affected by the disaster are Kota Tinggi involving 1,156 victims, Johor Bahru (1,004 people), Kulai (320) and Pontian (15),” said the committee.

In Segamat, several rivers have breached the danger level namely Sungai Segamat Kecil which recorded a reading of 38.32 meters (m); Sungai Bandar Segamat (9.2m); Sungai Labis (41.31m) and Sungai Lenik, Ladang Chaah (8.11m).

Also breaching the danger level are Sungai Kahang, Kampung Contoh (Kluang) at 16.95m; Sungai Siku, Kampung Murni Jaya (Kulai) 21.51m; Sungai Skudai, Kampung Separa (Kulai) 18.66m; Sungai Siam, Kampung Sungai Siam 21.51m and Sungai Pontian Besar, Kampung Melayu Bukit Batu 12.86m.

In addition, the water level of Sungai Pulai, Kampung Ulu Pulai (Pontian) has also exceeded the danger level of 2.81m the while level of Sungai Skudai, Kampung Laut (Johor Bahru) is at 5.79m.

Rain is forecast in all ten districts in Johor until this evening.
