KUALA LUMPUR: A donation drive set up by SJK (C) Mun Choong in aid of Batang Kali landslide victims from the school does not involve a third party, says U Chin Ong, the parent teacher association of the school.
The Xi Foundation was formed by the school’s board of directors, parent-teacher association and alumni after a decision was made in the meeting held on 18 December to provide a platform for public donations in aid of the school’s landslide victims.
A total of 30 people were found dead in the landslide, of whom 12 were related to SJK (C) Mun Choong.
It was reported that seven of the school’s female teachers, along with their children and canteen operator were on an unofficial camping trip at the organic farm hit by the Batang Kali landslide. Only one teacher survived.
U said the foundation was not associated with any group to raise funds as the school received inquiries from members of the public after being approached by some organisations to donate, claiming that they were collaborating with the school.
“We do not work with any organisation outside the school to raise funds,” said U.
He also said the contributions should be made to the bank account of the school’s parent-teacher association.
So far, the school has received contributions from all parts of Malaysia and Singapore.
Gadang Holding Bhd has donated RM50,000 to Xi Foundation while the alumni of the school contributed RM10,000.
Public donations can be remitted to the bank account of the parent-teacher association of SJK (C) Mun Choong with reference as Xi Donate.
The bank account of the parent-teacher association of the school with Maybank is 014338307442.
The foundation accepts public donations until 26 December.
