PKR may get either home affairs or finance, not both

PETALING JAYA: It is learned that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has decided to keep the home affairs ministry for his own party, Parti Keadilan Rakyat, not Umno.

A pro-Zahid Umno supreme council member told Sin Chew Daily this position would very likely go to PKR’s secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The source also said Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi would likely be appointed deputy prime minister and defense minister.

However, another reliable source confirmed that Saifuddin could either helm the home ministry or communications and multimedia ministry.

Sin Chew Daily has earlier reported that Saifuddin, the Anwar confidant who lost in the recent 15th general election, could be appointed a senator and then a minister.

Meanwhile, a PKR source said the party could only get either finance or home ministry, not both.

Another source has said Anwar would appoint a PKR leader to be finance minister, but so far there has been no mention of any name.

It was earlier speculated that former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s brother Tan Sri Mohamed Nazir Razak could be a candidate for finance minister, but as he is also implicated in the 1MDB scandal, such probability is not high.

Ahnmad Zahid may helm defense ministry and Saifuddin, home affairs.
