Padang Serai votes on Dec 7

PETALING JAYA: Due to the death of Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for Padang Serai Karupaiya Mutusami, the election commission decided on a new polling date for the constituency.

EC chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh said in a statement today that nomination for Padang Serai parliamentary seat will be on November 24 (Thursday), while polling day is on December 7 (Wednesday).

“There will be no election for Padang Serai parliamentary seat on November 19.

“Malaysians residing overseas can register online as postal voters from now until November 22.”

In the 2018 election, Karupaiya Mutusami won the Padang Serai seat with 31,724 votes, beating MCA’s Datuk Leong Yong Kong and PAS’ Muhamad Sobri Osman.

Padang Serai would have seen a six-cornered fight after the nomination day for the 15th general election. Besides Karupaiya, the other candidates are Hamzah Abd Rahman (Pejuang), Datuk Sivaraj Chandran (BN), Datuk Cikgu Azman (PN), Mohd Bakhri Hashim (Warisan) and independent candidate Ananda AK.
