KUALA LUMPUR: A source says Parti Keadilan Rakyat president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will likely not defend his Port Dickson parliamentary seat in order to contest the seat currently held by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu – Tambun.
If this becomes a reality, Tambun will see at least a three-cornered fight in what will be one of the country’s most watched parliamentary elections in the 15th general elections.
Ahmad Faizal, whose team has never left Tambun, is widely anticipated to defend the seat for Perikatan Nasional.
He said earlier that he would not go elsewhere even if Anwar eventually decides to challenge him in Tambun.
Meanwhile, the incumbent Perak menteri besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said even if Anwar were to contest Tambun parliamentary seat, the state BN was confident to recapture the seat.
