SHAH ALAM: Chinese Premier Li Qiang will be attending the ASEAN – Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit in Malaysia on May 27, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Chinese President Xi Jinping has visited Malaysia last month. Premier Li Qiang will be in Malaysia end of the month for the ASEAN-GCC summit,” he said during the “Meet Anwar” program with private institutions of higher learning on Monday.

As ties between Malaysia and China are getting closer, Malaysia, which is the host for the upcoming ASEAN-GCC summit, is looking forward to welcoming the leader from China, said Anwar.

He pointed out that the rise of China offers countries in the region unprecedented opportunities for collaboration.

Anwar said Malaysia maintains good relations with other countries, especially with China which has established partnership with Malaysia collaborating in trade, investment and regional cooperation.

“The current situation in the world is different from the past. The scenario of a sole superpower pattern is being replaced by a multipolar trend.

“The rise of China in economy and geopolitics has brought new collaborative opportunities in the region,” he said.
