PETALING JAYA: A commentator has likened political powers to sexual stimulants in referring to former prime minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, who has decided to contest in the coming 15th general elections.
Current affairs commentator Tang Ah Chai said politicians are attracted to powers.
“At the age of 97, Dr. Mahathir announces that he is contesting in the election again. Judging him from a positive angle, he is determined and full of energy as a senior citizen. Politics is thick in his blood. He is probably battling till the very last minute,” said Tang.
However, from a different perspective, Tang questioned whether Malaysia needs a man close to 100 years old to participate in politics.
Tang is of the view that Dr. Mahathir’s chance of defending the Langkawi parliamentary seat is high.
If he wins, he may still make a difference in politics. But if he were to lose, his political career will likely end, said Tang.
“As a member of parliament, Dr. Mahathir still has the trump card to negotiate. If more candidates win under him, he has greater trump card.”
Dr. Mahathir is neither a quiet nor a passive person, said Tang, adding that he would be using his victory as a bargaining chip.
“He will be proactive if he wins. Like in the past, even as a minority, he will attempt to dominate the majority,” said Tang.
