Iconic HK floating restaurant to be relocated to Southeast Asia

Hong Kong’s iconic floating restaurant, Jumbo Floating Restaurant, will be relocated to Southeast Asia this week.

According to Hong Kong-based Sing Tao Daily, the world’s largest floating restaurant attracting tourists with its grand imperial palace-like design is set to leave Hong Kong soonest by Tuesday.

On Sunday, Jumbo Floating Restaurant’s parent company Aberdeen Catering Group said it had found a new home for the restaurant and the installation of hoarding in preparation for its exit from Hong Kong had started.

A spokesperson of the company said the boat’s license would expire mid-June, and it would set sail before the expiry of the license.

Affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the floating restaurant has ceased operation for two years now.

Many Hong Kong residents were seen taking photographs of the extravagant restaurant on Monday.

The exact date of the boat’s departure from Hong Kong and its new location will not be disclosed to ensure smooth operation and minimal maintenance, as news of its departure attracts media attention.
