KUCHING: Political parties in Sarawak are in talks for collaboration to fight against Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the coming election.

The move is to avoid a repeat of opposition parties fighting against one another in the recent state election.

Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, president of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) said in an interview with Sin Chew Daily that his party is currently in talks with the heads of four other local parties in the state, as well as DAP.

The four local parties are Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak, Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) , Parti Aspirasi Rakyat Sarawak and Parti Sedar Rakyat Sarawak (Sedar).

The main objective is to avoid a repeat of three-cornered and multi-cornered fights in the coming general elections.

Wong said the talks are still at an early stage at this moment and seat allocation is not yet discussed.

We missed the opportunity to win more seats when individual opposition parties fielded their own candidates,” he explained.

On the progress of the negotiations, Wong said they had their first discussion only in late May.

More informal talks would be held soon, he concluded.
