PETALING JAYA: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice chairman Nurul Izzah Anwar will not contest in the coming party election despite winning the post with the highest votes back in 2018.
A source told Sin Chew Daily the two reasons she will not contest in the party election are that she wants to campaign for Rafizi Ramli and his team, and that she does not want to go against her father Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is supporting incumbent secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
Rafizi and Saifuddin are in a straight fight for the party’s deputy president post.
Vice presidents Nurul Izzah and Tian Chua have confirmed not defending their positions while two other VPs, namely plantation industries and commodities minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin and Kuala Langat MP Datuk Dr Xavier Jayakumar, have since left the party.
Chua is instead running for Batu division chairman.
