Undi18 collects postal votes in Singapore for Johor polls

JOHOR BAHRU: Undi18 has been collecting postal votes from Johor voters in Singapore to deliver them back to Johor Bahru.

One of the Undi18 founders, Nur Qyira Yusri told Sin Chew Daily that more than 20 volunteers in Singapore had liaised with Johor voters.

The volunteers collected the postal votes from those living in Singapore and delivered them back to Johor Bahru on March 10.

“Those unable to send their postal votes can fill up Google forms and our volunteers will arrange to pick up the votes. We have volunteers all over Singapore,” she said.

The postal votes will reach the returning officers at various state constituencies by 5pm on the polling day, she said.

Nur Qyira said about 200,000 Malaysians are living in Singapore but only close to 8,000 have registered as postal voters.

Many are unaware of the importance of casting their votes, she said.

“Many Johoreans find it hard to return home on the polling day to vote due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The postal vote system needs to be improved further. We are finding ways to get more people to vote,” she said.

Undi18 has offered a method to assist the postal voters by collecting the votes from Johoreans working in Singapore and delivering them back to Johor Bahru.

This is the first time such an arrangement has been made in Singapore.

Undi18 is also shipping postal votes from Johoreans working or studying in the United Kingdom back to Johor.
