PETALING JAYA, Oct 14 (Sin Chew Daily) – Although the police will no longer set up road blocks at state borders, they will still conduct spot checks at highway rest points, petrol stations or toll gates to ensure anti-virus SOP compliance.

When contacted by Sin Chew Daily, Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (Operations) chief SAC Srikumar Nair said the police would conduct stricter spot checks on Malaysians traveling across state borders to visit their families or for holidays in a bid to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 virus, following the relaxation of travel restrictions.

“We discover that the public have begun to accept the new normal way of living in the midst of the pandemic. So far the level of SOP compliance is satisfactory although there are some still flouting the rules.”

Srikumar said other than public venues interstate travelers may visit, enforcement agencies including the police, MITI, domestic trade ministry, health ministry and public works department will also conduct spot checks at business venues to ensure SOP compliance among business owners, staff and customers.

“Yesterday we conducted 17,693 raids nationwide, and two factories and 14 shops found violating the SOPs were ordered to close.”

Srikumar also said a total of 45 summonses were issued yesterday.
