KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 (Sin Chew Daily) – Prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the country is expected to reopen its borders in December or even earlier so that Malaysians can freely travel overseas while foreigners will be allowed to visit the country without having to apply beforehand.
However, a precondition is that at least 90% of the country’s adult population must have been fully immunized against COVID-19 by then.
He said during a joint interview with six local media organizations at Parliament House that the immigration department’s My Travel Pass platform will be abolished by then, so that Malaysians can travel out of the country and foreigners can enter the country without having to apply beforehand.
Sin Chew Daily was the only Chinese language newspaper invited to the interview.
The prime minister also said he had instructed the Johor state government to begin negotiating with Singapore to reinstate the Reciprocal Green Lane (RGL) facility, which has been suspended by Singapore since February 1.
