PETALING JAYA, June 24 (Sin Chew Daily) – According to the National Union of Heads of Schools (KKGGBM), among the 22,224 teachers in West Malaysia, only 2,992 or 13.58% have completed two-dose vaccination.
As of June 23, as many as 16,896 teachers or 76.7% of the teachers have yet to be vaccinated. Only 2,136 have received their first jabs.
As for school principals, only 414 (55.5% of total) have been vaccinated, of whom 299 have received two doses each.
Among the 3,039 teachers in Penang, as many as 2,730 or 89.83% have yet to be vaccinated, making the state having the highest percentage of unvaccinated teachers.
In second placed Perak, 3,206 out of 3,791 teachers in the state (84.56%) are unvaccinated, followed by Melaka 1,249 out of 1,487 (83.99%).
Perlis has the highest percentage of vaccinated teachers. Among the 206 teachers in the state, only 29 or 14.07% have yet to be vaccinated.
KKGGBM president Lim Bee Khim told Sin Chew Daily the survey was conducted because the union had found that many teachers had yet to receive their vaccines.
She insisted that the all teachers must complete both doses of vaccination in order to go back to the school to teach. This is to assure the students, parents and teaching staff of their safety.
