KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 (Sin Chew Daily) — No annual general meetings for political parties during the lockdown, says Jasri Kassim, director-general of the Registrar of Societies.
Political parties have been issued a directive that they are not allowed to hold AGM during the lockdown.
Jasri said the AGM could be convened after the lockdown during conditional movement control order (CMCO) or recovery movement control order (RMCO) in compliance with strict standard operating procedures (SOPs).
In a phone interview with Sin Chew Daily, Jasri said after discussing with the National Security Council, the ROS decided to postpone AGMs scheduled to be held during the lockdown from June 1 to 14.
"A virtual AGM will not be allowed as this may involve some technical issues," he said.
Jasri said some party members might question the validity of an election held in a virtual AGM.
To avoid unnecessary hassle, all AGMs scheduled to be held by political parties during the lockdown are put on hold, he said.
"Political parties are allowed to hold their AGM during CMCO or RMCO in compliance with the SOPs," he said.
It is reported that the National Security Council has rejected Umno's application to hold party elections this month, and ROS has also requested that Parti Keadilan Rakyat's AGM scheduled for June 6 be deferred.
