PETALING JAYA, May 17 (Sin Chew Daily) — A 19-year-old teenager who runs a burger stall in front of a McDonald's outlet in Desa Kepong is determined to become a boss in the food and beverage industry one day, even though he is still working for someone at this moment.

Firdaus, from Selayang Baru, was stunned by the good business after a photo of his burger stall in front of the McDonald's went viral on the social media with the remark: "A brave attempt".

Many are curious who this gutsy burger seller is. The photo on social media has been shared 16,700 times with 35,400 likes and 1,233 comments. It has also attracted the operator of McDonald's official Twitter account to leave a comment: "Stunning!"

Firdaus, who was recruited by Otai Franchise Sdn Bhd in January to start his first job after completing his studies, told Sin Chew Daily his boss started the burger stall at Desa Kepong last year and he was stationed at the stall.

He did not expect a patron to take a picture showing the stall just in front of the McDonald's.

"A customer took picture of the stall. I did not expect it. I also did not expect the photo to go viral in the social media," he said.

Many who patronized the stall would ask him if the stall was the one which went viral on social media.

Firdaus, who runs the stall from 3pm to midnight, was grateful for the fact that the number of patrons increased due to the photograph and business volume increased too.

"The business went up by 50%," he said.

Besides him, Firdaus said the owner of the stall had a total of 12 staff manning burger stalls at different locations mainly in Kepong and Segambut.

Asked why his boss chose the location in front of McDonald's, Firdaus said the location was close to road entrance with high volume of cars passing by.

"Burger lovers are McDonald's patrons. My boss thinks this is a strategic location to attract customers," he said.

Firdaus, who earns RM1,200 a month, is finding ways to increase the sales to earn more commission so that his take-home pay could reach RM2,000.

His employer also sent him for training on accounting and stall management so that he could become an entrepreneur one day.

Firdaus hopes to earn as much money as possible so that he could be his own boss one day.

After working for four months, he has picked up some business strategies and skills.

"My elder brother is also a hawker selling burgers. I used to learn from him since young. I hope I can be my own boss one day," he said.
