KUALA TERENGGANU, May 14 (Sin Chew Daily) — A visit by Kuala Terengganu DAP secretary to deliver a laptop to a student leads to more help pouring in for the student's family.

Cheong Siow Foon, who delivered a laptop to the student at his home, was shocked to discover a family of seven live in a bare two-bedroom low-cost flat, best described in Chinese idiom as a home with only four walls.

He posted on Facebook the plight of the family where the student's father had passed away while the mother was too weak to work.

The family only had a plastic chair, a foldable table, a one-door refrigerator and a piece of old mattress in the house.

The student's elder brother works in a restaurant while his elder sister has returned home after losing her job in a hair saloon in Kuala Lumpur.

The elder brother would get a lift from his colleague to go to work as the family is without transport.

The elder sister is also having trouble with job interviews without transport while the youngest sister is a child with special needs.

Cheong's Facebook post attracted many to contact him to offer help.

"I posted a photo of handing over the laptop to the student on Facebook. I also wrote about the condition of the family after the visit.

"I did not expect the post to receive such an overwhelming response with many willing to help the family during this difficult time," he said.

Cheong said a furniture shop contacted him to contribute some furniture for the family.

After checking with the family, the furniture shop contributed a single mattress, a queen size mattress, pillows, a table and four chairs for the family as requested by the latter.

Some good Samaritans offered to sponsor fan, floor mat and even paint for the low-cost unit.

Another kind-hearted person wanted to contribute cash to buy a motorbike for the family for the elder brother and elder sister.

The Kuala Terengganu DAP is arranging for both of them to sit for driving test before buying a motorcycle for them.
