KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 (Sin Chew Daily) — Taobao Malaysia records a surge in the sale of computer desks by 305% during the Chinese New Year period.

The sale of computer desks also topped the list of items bought by Malaysians during the festive period.

"Under the new normal where many are working from home for long hours, this leads to a dramatic rise in the sale of computer desks," Taobao Malaysia said.

Online sale during Chinese New Year increased by 19% compared to the same period last year, it said.

Other items bought online are furniture, laptops, canned food, hampers and kitchen products.

Sale of furniture increased by 46%, laptops by 41% and clothing 30% during the festive season.

Taobao Malaysia has also recorded steady increase in the sale of casual wear and undergarments over the past one year, probably due to the WFH culture.

Netizens have also ordered various types of canned food, hampers and kitchen products through Taobao Malaysia.

Air fryer is one of the top 30 electronic products sold by Taobao Malaysia.

Although Hong Kong Consumer Council has discovered that six types of air fryers pose various safety risks in its study of 12 air fryers, the findings have not stopped Malaysians from buying this product as one of the most popular items bought online.
