(KUANTAN) Through a Malaysia-China Talent Grooming Plan, Eastern Steel Group is offering service-based scholarships by collaborating with two local universities and University of Science and Technology Beijing in China to groom local talent in steel industry.
Based in Kemaman, Terengganu, Eastern Steel Group, a joint-venture between Beijing Jianlong Heavy Industry Group Co., Ltd and Hiap Teck Venture Bhd, is offering students 150 scholarships to pursue a degree in metallurgy, mechanical manufacturing, electronic information automation and finance in Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT).
The group also allocated 10 to 15 sets of special scholarships for students pursuing a degree in metallurgy at University of Science and Technology Beijing after spending two years in TAR UMT.
Except for metallurgy, scholarship recipients who are pursuing a degree in mechanical manufacturing, electronic information automation and finance are to complete the study in UTAR and TAR UMT, said Belle Ng in charge of human resources of the company.
Scholarship recipients are to work with the group for a minimum of three years after graduation from the university.
Like other staff in the company, the scholarship recipients will receive a monthly salary ranged between RM4,500 and RM6,000 as the starting pay, said Ng.
Tan Seng Keong, chief financial officer of the company said Eastern Steel Group is promoting steel manufacturing in Malaysia.
“As an integrated steel factory, we are switching to be a smart manufacturing factory , integrating with green technology, sustainable energy and digitalisation to enhance the competitive edge,’’ he said.
To achieve the objective, the company is urgently recruiting talents where offering service-based scholarships is one of the key channels, he said.
