The ancient Egyptian historic site of Abu Simbel south of Aswan, some 1,120km from the Egyptian capital Cairo.
Egypt's inauguration of the Aswan High Dam 50 years ago necessitated one of the world's biggest archaeological rescue operations ever, with the massive Abu Simbel ancient temple complex dismantled and hoisted to higher ground to prevent it from being swamped by the rising waters.
The original site is today completely submerged by Lake Nasser.
