KUALA LUMPUR, June 1 (Sin Chew Daily) – It is said that former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad might be willing to consider appointing Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as deputy prime minister if Pakatan Harapan++ gets to form the new government.
Prior to this, there has been rumor that Tun Mahathir's preferred deputy is Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.
A source nevertheless told Sin Chew Daily that PKR had resolved in its special supreme council meeting yesterday to only support Anwar as the next prime minister and never touched on the issue of deputy prime minister.
"The meeting did not discuss whether Anwar would consider the DPM post if Mahathir has enough support to form the new government and insists to be prime minister himself.
"Anwar is PKR's only prime minister candidate."
However, the source said PKR would not "shut the door" and Anwar would continue to negotiate the prime minister candidate with other PH parties.
"It's still possible to negotiate. We will not shut the door!"
In the meantime, it is said that Mahathir has confidence getting the support of GPS of Sarawak to form the new government.
A source said GPS was worried its cooperation with PAS in Perikatan Nasional alliance could affect its performance in the upcoming Sarawak sate election.
