Anwar sworn in as 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was officially sworn in as the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia in front of His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah at Istana Negara this evening.

Anwar’s Pakatan Harapan won 82 parliamentary seats in last week’s 15th general election, while Perikatan Nasional won 73 seats and Barisan Nasional 30.

As none of the three major political camps managed to cross the 112-seat threshold, the country saw its first ever hung parliament in history.

After five days of political impasse, His Majesty the King chaired a special Conference of Rulers meeting at 11.00 a.m. this morning.

Also present at the swearing-in ceremony were Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook, Parti Keadilan Rakyat deputy president Rafizi Ramli, Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Rais Yatim and Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun.
