SERDANG: Datuk Lim Kah Chuan, president of the Federation of Chinese Associations Johor, has been elected president of the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Hua Zong), the umbrella body representing Chinese associations nationwide.

Lim, who previously served as deputy president of Hua Zong, won the post by securing 54 votes, defeating two other contenders: Datuk Cheng Lai Hock, president of the Kedah Chinese Assembly Hall (41 votes), and Tan Sri Goh Ming Choon, president of the Associated Chinese Associations of Pahang (33 votes).

Lim’s deputy is Ngan Teng Ye, president of the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, who beat Datuk Oie Poh Choon, the Kelantan Chinese Assembly Hall president.

Ngan polled 89 votes while Oie 39 votes.

Lim said one of his priorities is grooming young talent.

“My wish is for young people—from schools, youth movements, and international organizations—to build their foundation in Hua Zong.

“Chinese associations need fresh blood. Hua Zong is a big family that provides a platform for the younger generation.

“The 13 state-level associations under Hua Zong are capable of nurturing talents and sending them to Hua Zong to contribute their expertise,” he said.
