KUALA LUMPUR: A barista loses her job with Starbucks after the video clip of her uttering “bodoh” at a Chinese tourist trying to order drinks at the café located at the departure level of KLIA Terminal 2 went viral on social media.
In a statement, Starbucks apologized to the customer and public, saying the café deeply regretted the behavior displayed by the barista.
“The behavior of the barista does not reflect the values we uphold at Starbucks.
“We are committed to creating a welcoming environment for all customers regardless of their background, nationality, or the language they speak,” it said.
The barista was dismissed on Sunday after an internal review was conducted.
In addition, Starbucks said it was reinforcing its training programs to ensure that all employees understand the importance of cultural sensitivity, respectful communication and the standard of customer service.
A tourist from China was trying to place an order with assistance from artificial intelligence and the attending barista was impatient and unfriendly. She even uttered “bodoh” (stupid).
The entire conversation was uploaded on social media sparking heated discussions by netizens.
