PETALING JAYA: British teen David Balisong is likely to return to Manchester with his mother soon with assistance from the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur.
Balisong, 17, has been in Malaysia after taking a flight from Manchester to Kuala Lumpur on June 7.
Social activist Kuan Chee Heng, better known as Uncle Kentang, who has helped his mother Minerva Balisong in search of the missing teenager, told Sin Chew Daily that she has contacted the British High Commission for assistance as the teenager’s 90-day visa expires today.
Kuan said Balisong was in good condition when he was found.
He was initially shocked by the presence of large number of policemen at the hotel in Pudu and he was taken to the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters to be reunited with his mother, Kuan said.
“A Korean backpacker who shares the room with him contacted me and I alerted the police.
“The backpacker has suspected the roommate is the missing teenager after reading news in search of him,’’ Kuan said.
The mother, Minerva told Harian Metro that Balisong had lost some weight as he was eating fast food daily to save money.
Nevertheless, she was able to recognise him.
Without informing family members, Balisong took a flight from Manchester to Kuala Lumpur by himself.
He arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on June 7 and was spotted in KL Sentral.
His family reported him missing after he did not return home from school. He also did not respond to repeated calls, emails and voice messages.
Balisong’s mother, Minerva, came to Malaysia to search for him.
Initial investigation by the police revealed that Balisong left home due to a disagreement with the family.
