KUALA LUMPUR : Police are investigating allegations of bullying in connection with the deaths of two Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) students, who fell from the same condominium 14 hours apart on Wednesday.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the first incident involved a 22-year-old female student who fell from the 22nd floor at 6.48am. She was found on the eighth floor and later pronounced dead.

In the second incident, a 21-year-old male student fell from the 35th floor of the same condominium at 9.35pm and was discovered dead at the back of the building on the ground floor.

Post-mortem results showed that both victims died from multiple injuries sustained in the falls. Police found no criminal elements and initially classified the cases as sudden deaths.

However, Fadil said the female victim’s mother lodged a police report, claiming her daughter had been bullied at the college.

“Both cases are now being investigated under Section 507B of the Penal Code, and we are in the process of recording witness statements as well as obtaining the victims’ profiles and backgrounds,” he said in a statement.

Section 507B of the Penal Code relates to threatening, abusive or insulting words or communications intended to cause harassment, distress, fear, or alarm. Conviction carries a penalty of up to three years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
