SEREMBAN: The Negeri Sembilan assembly has passed the motion to nominate Datuk Vincent Wu Him Ven and Dr Jufitri Johar as senators representing the state.
The motion, tabled by Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, was seconded by state exco Teo Kok Seong.
Wu replaced Datuk A. Kesavadas Nair, whose term ended on Apr 20 and Dr Jufitri took over from Datuk Dr Ahmad Azam Hamzah starting Aug 14.
The assembly passed the motion without five state assemblymen from the opposition. The five abstained from voting.
Wu, 61, a central executive committee member of DAP, was nominated by DAP and Dr Jufitri, 46, Rembau PKR division chief, was nominated by PKR.
Wu said the nomination was not an honor but a mission for him.
“I respect the voices from the grassroots especially the veterans,” he said, adding that he knew Lee Kong Hing, the Negeri Sembilan DAP veteran club chairman for many years.
Wu said as Lee led 50 members of the veteran club to protest against his nomination earlier.
Wu stressed that he respected the decision and the process of the state assembly.
“I m willing the serve here as the party has placed me here,’’ he said.
