Chua Lam donates a truck for Sang Riang Senior Citizen’s Home in Triang.

TRIANG: Hong Kong-based food critic cum writer Chua Lam has donated a truck for Sang Riang Senior Citizen’s Home in Triang, Pahang, through Sin Chew Daily.

The fund comes from 83-year-old Chua’s calligraphy exhibition held at Sin Chew Daily headquarters in Petaling Jaya last September.

Referred by Sin Chew Daily, the proceeds of the fund raised from the exhibition was donated to the home which currently houses 485 senior citizens of all races.

The founder of the home, Yap Yoke Moey thanked Chua and Sin Chew Daily for referring the renowned columnist cum food critic to contribute to the home.

“Without the support of good Samaritans, the home will not be able to sustain until today.

“Many people care to spread the message to all parts of the world that even a foreign food critic is concerned about the home in Triang,” she said.

Set up in 2003, the home offers shelter free-of-charge for elderlies from across the country who have been left in hospitals without next of kin.

Last year, the home was presented with Cultural Tourism Award by Tourism Malaysia for providing a harmonious shelter to senior citizens of various races and religions.

It is reported that the facility frequently receives visitors from non-governmental organisations, higher learning institutions and schools, who wish to do charity work or learn about issues surrounding abandoned senior citizens.
