KLANG: The first batch of local staff under MaiStorage, a subsidiary of Phison Malaysia, will start at the Malaysia Semiconductor Accelerator & IC Design Park in Puchong on 15 July.
Phison Electronics founder Datuk Pua Khein-Seng said Phison Electronics in Taiwan would be grooming local technicians and products under MaiStorage, a subsidiary in Malaysia, so that local talents would be able to develop integrated chip (IC) design in future.
The first batch of staff comprise 29 local graduates and five staff from Taiwan.
“We will continue to recruit local staff in Malaysia. We also welcome Malaysians graduating from Taiwan or the United States to join us,’’ he said.
Pua said Malaysia is short of IC designers and it is hard to find such designers from local universities.
Pua, the inventor of USB flash drive, said Phison Electronics would transfer its technology to the Malaysian subsidiary in order to groom local experts in IC design.
By transferring the technology to Malaysia, Pua hopes the move could drive the IC design development in Malaysia.
MaiStorage is one of the four partners committed to joining the Malaysia Semiconductor Accelerator & IC Design Park: Selangor Hub initiated by the Selangor state government in collaboration with the federal government, leading international semiconductor firms, as well as venture capitalists to position Malaysia in the global ID design industry.
