SERDANG: The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Hua Zong) and Carlsberg jointly launched a RM1 million financial aid program for university students in Malaysia.

Underprivileged Malaysian university students will be offered RM3,000 of financial aid each.

For the first time, the financial aid is open to non-Chinese students meeting the criteria, said Hua Zong President Tan Sri Goh Tian Chuan.

This is the second time Carlsberg and Hua Zong have collaborated in a special project, said Carlsberg Malaysia corporate & marketing activation senior manager Ng Choon Siang.

The first was in 2021, when many were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Although all sectors are now fully open after the pandemic, we have received plenty of requests from families, especially single parents, for financial aid.

“After discussing with Hua Zong, we decided to allocate another RM1 million for needy students to apply,” said Ng, adding that this is part of Carlsberg’s corporate social responsibility.

The financial aid is open to Malaysian students studying at universities and colleges, including those who have completed SPM.

Applicants are to provide their student IDs, letters from their universities or colleges, forms and other related documents to Hua Zong or the respective state Chinese assembly halls either by mail or email before 29 February.

Hua Zong will release the list of successful applicants on 4 April.

Visit Hua Zong’s education fund web page, or call 03-8939 0861 or 011-10534110 for details.
